FAQ: Rite Press — The 'No Mess' French Press
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Can I make tea with Rite Press?

Absolutely! The Rite Press works with both dried and fresh tea leaves. Please note that the thermometer and hourglass are optimized for coffee brewing. Tea Kit is available to purchase via the add-on page. Our Tea Kit features 3 sand timers set for the approximate times each type of tea should steep for. The sand is colored to keep selection of the Rite timer simple. The Thermometer highlights the different temperature ranges for each tea and will fit in into the press in the place of the Coffee Thermometer. The Tea Kit will work for all Rite Presses.

How does the hourglass work?

The timer is set for 3 minutes and 30 seconds, which our testing indicates is the optimal brew time for flavorful coffee. The hourglass has a magnet built into it that sticks to a steel part on the Rite Press (located under the spout).

When will my rewards ship?

All the latest information on production and shipping timelines is posted in the Rite Press team’s updates page on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

BackerKit has no involvement with the production or shipping of the Rite Press, and cannot provide any further details on shipping timelines beyond what the Rite Press creators have posted in their updates — sorry for the lack of info on our end!

Can I cancel my pledge for a refund?

BackerKit doesn’t have any access to the funds raised during the original Kickstarter campaign, so we’re not able to provide refunds for transactions made on Kickstarter.

If you’d like to pursue a refund further, please contact the project creators directly on Kickstarter (to contact the creator, click on the “Created by” link at the top of their campaign page, then scroll down to the bottom of the creator info and click “contact me”).

Is it difficult to use?

French presses are extremely simple: measure out your coffee grounds, add hot water, and let steep for the correct amount of time. Then press the plunger to remove the grounds from your coffee.

The only difficult part of traditional French presses is the cleanup, which is notoriously annoying. The grounds (or leaves, if you’re making tea) are stuck in a wet clump at the bottom. That’s why we invented the Rite Press—our patented bottom unscrews for easy cleanup.

What are the specifications of the filter?

The filter is made from corrosion resistant woven 80 mesh stainless steel.

Is the Rite Press dishwasher safe?

The thermometer and the hourglass are not dishwasher safe. The bottom, body, and plunger assembly of the press are dishwasher safe.

Last updated: February 10, 2018 11:43

What grind should be used in the Rite Press?

As with all French Press, the Rite Press will give you best results with a coarse ground coffee.

Last updated: February 26, 2018 15:10

How does the thermometer work?

The thermometer should be pulled out of the filter (where it’s stored) and put into the water to check the temp. The thermometer is color-coded. Red is too hot—you might scorch the coffee; blue is too cold—you won’t extract the full flavor. Center green (calibrated to 200ºF) means it’s just right.

How does the removable bottom work?

It twists off like a lid on a bottle. The seal is made of food-grade silicone.

Last updated: February 10, 2018 11:43

What are the materials the press is made of?

The Rite Press is made of 18/10 stainless steel with high nickel content for increased corrosion resistance. The seal for the removable bottom is made of medical-grade silicone. We carefully designed our presses to ensure they are plastic-free.

How much coffee do I use in the press?

Coffee Nerd: 45-50 grams of coarse-ground, amazing coffee to 750 grams of water at 200 – 205 ºF degrees

Coffee Lover: 2 tablespoons of whole beans per 6 oz of water. Grind to coarse.

Coffee Newbie: Using pre-ground coffee, about a heaping tablespoon per cup

Why don’t most people use a French press?

Although it’s simple, many people have never been exposed to it. Others dislike the cleanup or aren’t sure how to measure variables like temperature and brew time. By making the bottom removable and including a thermometer and timer with each press, we’ve made a good brewing method great.

How much is shipping and handling?

Shipping and handling, which includes shipping the items to our offices, packing and fulfilling orders will cost: FREE in the Domestic United States (including Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Alaska) $14 to Canada + $7 for every extra unit $21 for international orders (including Europe, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia) + $9 for every extra unit.

Why hasn't Kickstarter taken my shipping information?

To protect backers information, Kickstarter does not require shipping information until the campaign is officially over.

In order to get the Rite Press into your kitchen, we will be sending out a survey at the END of the campaign to take all the pertinent shipping information from you.

Last updated: February 10, 2018 11:43

Why is the Rite Press better?

The French press has been a standard in coffee-making for over 88 years, and with good reason. It’s simple and straightforward and makes a great cup of coffee (or tea). But it’s a pain to clean, and the market has shown little desire to innovate.

Our press has a removable bottom for easy and fast cleanup, and it comes with a built in thermometer and hourglass to help you take your coffee or tea brewing to the next level with minimum effort.

I love coffee. Why should I use a French press?

A French press is regarded by many as the best way to make coffee because all the oil, and therefore flavor, remains in the coffee instead of being filtered out as in drip systems. It’s also the most environmentally friendly brewing method, with no waste other than the grounds, which are composable.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
